Mr. Burford is a Senior Associate in the San Francisco office and currently handles civil litigation in trial and appellate courts, in both federal and California courts. His primary focus is the defense of complex mass toxic tort litigation. Mr. Burford manages and conducts all stages of pre-trial discovery and motion preparation, and post-trial appellate work, for product, premises and contractor liability in personal injury and wrongful death claims for exposure to asbestos.
In addition to his experience with toxic tort and products liability litigation, Mr. Burford has experience defending employment and labor cases. He has counseled private employers and litigated matters involving sexual harassment and protected class discrimination, including claims under the California Unruh Act. Additionally, Mr. Burford has experience as an advocate in various administrative proceedings including wage claim hearings before the California Labor Commissioner and in claims for unemployment benefits before the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board.
Mr. Burford also has experience in defending state and municipal entities in litigation involving general liability, civil rights, land-use/eminent domain and other real property disputes.
Mr. Burford received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University, Chico, in 1997, and his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 2000. Mr. Burford was admitted to the State Bar of California in July 2000. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Northern District of California.
