Mary Katherine Back is a litigation associate in the firm’s San Francisco office. Prior to joining the firm, Mary represented plaintiffs in pharmaceutical and medical device mass tort cases and medical malpractice cases. In 2007, she was recognized as a top up-and-coming lawyer by Super Lawyers magazine and named a Rising Star. Mary clerked for the Justices of the Superior Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts immediately upon completion of law school. She is admitted to practice law in Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of California.
Mary earned her Juris Doctor degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 2003. In addition, she completed comparative legal study programs at Trinity University in Dublin, Ireland; Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic; and the Aegean Institute of Law in Rhodes, Greece. While in law school, Mary clerked for the Honorable Napoleon A. Jones, Jr. of the U.S. District Court (S.D. Cal) and was also an editorial writer for the nationally published Lawyers Weekly newspaper. Mary earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Clemson University where she graduated cum laude.
Mary is a member of the American Bar Association, Bar Association of San Francisco, Boston Bar Association, and Massachusetts Bar Association. She is also a volunteer for the Family Law Assisted Self-Help (FLASH) Project in San Francisco and a judge for the American Bar Association’s annual National Appellate Advocacy Competition.
